MICCAI Grand Challenge:
The aim of the NeoBrainS12 challenge is to compare (semi-)automatic algorithms for segmentation of neonatal brain tissues and measurement of corresponding volumes using T1- and T2-weighted MRI scans of the brain. The comparison will be performed in (any of) the following tissue types: cortical and central grey matter, non-myelinated and myelinated white matter, brainstem and cerebellum, and cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles and in the extracerebral space.
On this website, teams can register to participate in the study. After registration, they can download a set of T1-weighted and T2-weighted MR images of the brain. The teams can apply their segmentation algorithm and submit the obtained results. The segmentation results will be evaluated against the manually set reference standard and published on this web-site.
Subsequently, teams are invited to submit a paper about their method and their results to the MICCAI Grand Challenge on Neonatal Brain Segmentation (NeoBrainS12) that will be held on October 5, 2012 in Nice, France. On site, the participants will receive an additional set of scans, acquired with the same scan protocol. A two hours timeframe will be given for the segmentation. The submitted results will be immediately evaluated against a reference standard and subsequently published on this site.
After the workshop, a summary article based on this study will be written by the organizers and submitted to a high-impact peer-reviewed journal. The article will describe the study, a brief overview of each participating algorithm and a summary of the results. In addition, we would like to include the results of the teams who have not participated in the on-site challenge, but in the web-based challenge only. Teams which participated in the challenge and registered for the workshop will be added as coauthors of this article (up to three coauthors per team), and the teams participating in the web-based challenge only can add two coauthors per team. The teams need to submit their results and the description of the used algorithm by November 15, 2012.
Please note that in conjunction with MICCAI 2012 a Workshop on Perinatal and Paediatric Imaging (PaPI 2012) will take place. Submissions to NeoBrainS12 evaluating algorithms presented at the PaPI 2012 workshop are welcome.
